The weather for most of September has been breezy and cool in Montreal – autumn is definitely here.
But the last two days have been muggy and hot and full of sudden thunder storms, so I couldn’t resist one more summery plus size illustration. Enjoy this last look at hot summer days!
I sketched and painted this plus size illustration yesterday while rewatching The September Issue (wonderful documentary).
While Grace Coddington talked about colour blocking, I was laying out my paints – that’s how this sketch ended up with orange hair and such a vibrant dress!
Basically the illustration turned out to be a plus size rainbow pride flag. As I am a bisexual woman, and newly wedded to my wife, I think it’s ok that I ended up with a fabulous rainbow dress!
Labour Day is fast approaching and I am totally ready for the last long weekend of the summer! It’s nice to enjoy a few more lazy sunny days before fall kicks in.
Meet Kassidy, perched on top of her packed bags, making last minute travel arrangements for a fabulous summer getaway.
I noticed this photo on Pinterest the other day and loved it so much that I had to illustrate it.
This is Brittany of The Fat Girl’s Guide. Loving the fun summery floral top and cute mini polka dot shorts. Her hair is so pretty – go click on the link, because I know this illustration doesn’t do it justice.
I love finding new plus size fashion bloggers!
It seems like everyone has been talking about Gabi Fresh’s swimsuit line, launched this year. After 2012′s controversial fatkini post on her blog, she capitalized on the interest in plus size swimwear- teaming up with industry experts Swimsuits For All to bring an innovative and fashionable line to the table.
I love her lookbook for her inaugural collection- the photo shoot is modern and playful. Two images in particular caught my eye, so I sketched them over the weekend – and here they are. (The model below in the galaxy print is Gabi Fresh herself).
If the weather holds out, I’m heading for the beach next week for the first time all summer! I’m going to rock a turquoise bathing suit that I picked up last year – what are you ladies going to be wearing this beach season?
There’s a heat wave sweeping the province this week. Montreal will feel like the high 30s all week, which depresses me. Sweaty days on public transportation is not my idea of a fun time. However, an air conditioned work place, and an ice cold ice cappucino in the morning, are a few upsides to a hot summer day!
I am living in capris and sleeveless shirts this summer, and I’m loving it. I can’t wait to hit the stores soon for end-of-season sales so I can snap up some great pieces that I have been mulling over. In terms of fashion, I am one of the late adopters – I never wear trends until I’ve thought about them for awhile, which means that they are often on the sales racks before I feel comfortable enough to buy them!
Lately I’ve been thinking about floral denim. I love how it looks on other people – but I can’t seem to take the plunge myself. Really not sure if I would love it on myself, but it seems so summery and pretty on others.
Fun fact about this illustration – I may not own the jeans, but I do own this purse from the Bay, and I love it. Green leather with a key charm attached to the zipper pull. Terrific purse.
Are you an early trend adopter, or a late adopter like me??
Montreal has a very short spring season – and it’s already pretty much over. I would have liked a few more weeks of mild weather and spring jackets, but mother nature always has other plans.
Time to keep cool in pretty summer dresses and enjoy the sunshine!
Enjoy the May flowers, everyone!
Did you get this month’s issue of Curvaceous Inc yet? If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Go grab it now!
I had an illustration featured in their bridal issue, and as always it was great to collaborate with their team.
This is the plus size bridal image that they included in one of their articles this month.
Last week, I was catching up on posts at The Plus Side of Me and I saw this great round-up of plus size fashion bloggers size 24 and up. I’m a size 24 myself, and it was nice to see so many great blogs listed! There were some familiar faces but I also discovered some new favourites.
The Glitter Thread is one of the fashion blogs that I can’t believe I didn’t know about before. Courtney, who is an editor at Skorch Magazine, rocks some serious style (with flawless make-up in every picture).
I love her Kelly Osbourne inspired look, with pretty lilac hair and rocker girl fashion. The mesh bodysuit can be found over at Chubby Cartwheels if you’re looking to make this look your own.
I love living in Québec. I moved to Montreal about 12 years ago from the East Coast and promptly fell in love with charming architecture, beautiful landscape, and truly scrumptious pastries (and cheese, and bagels, and a heck of a lot of other delicious things).
It was with a lot of local pride that I saw the cover of this month’s issue of Elle Québec with Québecois plus model Justine Legault on the cover. This is certainly not the first plus size cover from the Elle chain of magazines, but it’s not a frequent occurrence. It’s a great cover, and I illustrated it over the weekend.
This is the second time I’ve sketched Justine on the blog. Check out the first post here, featuring her in swimwear.
