Bianca: Shakespearean Sweetheart

Yesterday, I went to see a Shakespeare in the Park performance of The Taming of the Shrew. It was a perfect night for it- nice weather, clear skies, no mosquitos! The actors were uniformly good, with a lot of wonderful comedic timing. It was lovely to spend a summer evening outside with a picnic and a play.

I finished this sketch on Thursday but hadn’t settled on a name for her. Now I’ve been inspired by the pretty younger sister in the play- good-hearted, (mostly) sweet-natured, well-mannered Bianca.

I saw her coral lips to move,
And with her breath she did perfume the air;
Sacred and sweet was all I saw in her.

Lucentio, The Taming of the Shrew, Act 1, Sc. 1

Without further ado- meet Bianca, out for a summer stroll in a light purple sundress with sweet ribbon details, and pretty pink rosette shoes.
